This Lord’s Day at River City Reformed, we will begin a new series on the songs of Christmas. You may wonder if this is a study of Christmas carols from our hymnals, but we are actually focusing on songs recorded in Scripture. This could include a wide variety of songs, especially if you consider that the Psalter points us to adore and worship the Son of God. It could also include Philippians 2:6-11. For the purposes of this study, we will be considering the following songs: “The Magnificat” as we study Luke 1:46-56, “The Benedictus” as we study Luke 1:67-79, “The Gloria” as we study Luke 2:8-20, “Nunc Dimittis” as we study Luke 2:22-38, and finally “The Song of Moses and the Lamb” as we study Revelation 15:1-4.
As we consider the Magnificat, we will see that it is a song of faith, a song of trust and a song of gratitude, and ultimately Mary exalts Christ as her Savior.
