This week in our study of Acts we come to Acts 5:12-42. The church has recently prayed for boldness, and we see in this passage that the Lord has answered that prayer. Persecution breaks out against the Apostles in a more intense way, yet the Lord delivers them, and they go away rejoicing. Why can they rejoice? Acts 5:41 tells us “they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.” Suffering dishonor for the sake of Christ was seen by the Apostles as an honor.
